Training
Acting for clean air and a resilient climate
A programme for young professionals, policymakers, businesses, civil society and entrepreneurs in Sub-Saharan Africa. It connects what existing courses treat separately: climate, air quality, health, law, business and how people adopt solutions.
In preparation · draft programmeThe programme in seven modules
Each module combines input, an African case study and a hands-on exercise. The final project brings everything together around a real case.
- M1
Understanding climate and air
Climate science, links between greenhouse gases and air pollutants, the Paris Agreement, national contributions and the African Union climate strategy.
Hands-on: Map the climate and air quality actors in your city.
- M2
Measuring the airnew
Low-cost sensors and their calibration, reference stations, satellites and models, data confidence levels. Reading and comparing public data series.
Hands-on: Analyse open AirQo or OpenAQ data for a capital city.
- M3
Air and healthnew
Health effects of fine particles, household pollution from cooking, critical reading of studies and attributable-death estimates.
Hands-on: Prepare a briefing note for a health centre.
- M4
Law, policy and negotiations
African climate laws (including South Africa's 2024 act), air quality standards, international negotiations, carbon markets and Article 6.
Hands-on: Simulate an advocacy session with elected officials.
- M5
Business: risk and reporting
Climate risk, ISSB reporting standards (IFRS S2), circular economy, with examples from African companies.
Hands-on: Carry out a climate and air diagnosis of a company.
- M6
Communicating and getting solutions adoptednew
Climate communication without greenwashing, and above all behaviour: why families go back to charcoal, how to get clean cooking or air cleaners adopted.
Hands-on: Design a behaviour change campaign.
- M7
Building local solutions
Markets for clean cooking, filtration and monitoring; finance from green funds, impact investors and carbon credits.
Hands-on: Build a filter box, then pitch a project to a panel.
Three formats
Discovery track
A curated selection of the best open resources, and short webinars in French and English.
Workshop "Measure and clean the air"
Set up and read a sensor, build a filter box, interpret data for your neighbourhood.
Certificate track
The seven modules, mentoring and a final project presented to professionals.
What we bring
- Air and climate together: most courses separate them, although their sources and solutions overlap.
- A French-language offer: technical air quality courses exist mostly in English.
- How people adopt solutions: technology is not enough if households, schools or businesses do not take it up.
- Hands-on practice: measuring, filtering, building a project, using public data and African cases.
